Understanding Footwear for Children

Quality shoes are very important in childhood. It is important to buy shoes that support good foot development. This means that they need to be supportive in all the right places: the ankles, the arch of the foot, and the heel. You need to know other things, too, and we are going to cover these issues below.

When Should Your Child Start Wearing Shoes?
Contrary to popular belief, it is not when the child learns to walk that they should have their first pair of shoes, but rather, when they are first walking outdoors. Most children learn to walk indoors, and it is important at this stage of development to allow them to walk barefoot. This promotes a natural walk that supports the skeletal frame. If you introduce shoes too early, or force them to wear shoes all the time, they can have later problems with their gait – although it causes only minimal problems. As long as the child is in a safe environment, allow them to walk barefoot, with or without socks.

How Much Should You Spend on Shoes?
Unfortunately, there is no scrimping when it comes to children’s shoes. It is important that you buy a high quality pair of shoes, especially if they are intended for everyday wear. Certain brands, such as children's Kicker shoes, are renowned for providing good support and structure, and thereby helping feet to develop and grow naturally.Regrettably, you will have to pay a bit more money to buy children Kicker boots, or to buy other brands that offer the same support. This is because they spend a lot of time engineering, researching and developing their shoes, to ensure that they offer the support needed by growing children.

What about the Sole?
Many people don’t realise it, but children's soles need to be thicker than adult soles. This is largely because children are clumsier than adults are, and tend not to look where they’re going. They will often accidently walk on things like glass and nails, and a thin sole will offer no protection. It is important, therefore, that the child has a relatively thick sole.

The sole must also have a strong grip on slippery surfaces. This means that the tread should be deep. Having a good grip will prevent falls during wet and icy weather, which in climates such as the UK, is common.

Finally, the sole need to be flexible. If the sole is too rigid it means that the child will have to fight against it with each step that they take. This can lead to an unnatural walk – for some it may mean that they walk on their toes, as it’s easier than rolling the foot, or it can lead to the child having a heavy footfall, as they’re pushing down extra hard.

Understanding Children’s Footwear

Wearing well-fitting shoes is important in childhood. Poorly fitted shoes can lead to all kinds of problems in adulthood, including problems with gait (the way you walk), bunions, and hip alignment. Such problems are avoidable by wearing correct footwear. Below, we are going to discuss a few footwear basics. If you have children, it is important that you understand the importance of choosing the correct type of footwear for your child.

When Should You Buy Your Child there First Pair of Shoes?
Many first time parents struggle with this issue. They are unsure when to move up from baby shoes – which are really slippers – to starter shoes, with proper soles, tread and flexibility. You should buy your child shoes as soon as they are walking outside of the house. It is important to allow them to walk barefoot indoors, to develop a natural walk. Allow them to walk indoors as much as they want, without shoes, but as soon as they need to walk outside, they need a pair of shoes.

How Do You Know Which Size Your Child Needs to Wear?
Well, the smart answer is to measure the feet. However, you will notice that shoe sizes differ between brands. Sometimes you may go to a shop; the assistant measures a certain size, but brings out a shoe that does not fit, despite being the appropriate size. This issue tends to be problematic when shopping online, rather than in the real world shops, as you cannot try the shoes on online. You can overcome this problem by using specific brands that you already know. For instance, if your child wears girls or boys Clarks shoes then you already know how they fit. If they are size 4 with Clarks, they will always be a size 4 – well, until their feet grow. The good thing about girls and boys Clarks shoes is that Clarks sell a measurementgauge that you can buy online and use to find your child's shoes size.

If you have bought shoes for children, then you will already know that they come in a variety of widths (so do adult shoes, but it is not as prevalent). It is important that take the width of their feet into account when you are buying their shoes, as shoes that are too tight or too loose can be problematic. This is especially true of shoes that you know they will be wearing on a regular basis. School shoes, for instance, should always be measured for width. However, you can get away with not measuring for width if they do not wear the shoes often - formal footwear, for example.

Change their Shoes when they need it
You must check your children's feet regularly. You need to make sure that they have not grown too much, and if they have, you will need to buy them new shoes. You must also make sure that the shoes are not damaged, if they are, then again, they will need a new pair of shoes.

When Size Does Matter

There is a tendency for manufacturers of everything consumers need from shoes to cars and kitchens to clothing, to produce the average size.

Their logic is that eighty or ninety percent of people need a certain length shoe and if they need extra wide or extra narrow then that’s tough because making conveyor belt mass production does not allow for variances for the few.

Believe it or not when looking to buy a new car some years ago a visit to half a dozen showrooms of different manufactures cars resulted in every case of feeling my head pressed against the roof.

At six foot and one inch I am not particularly tall and the salesman at one store who was at least an inch taller than me kept getting in and lowering the seat and was astonished I still did not fit. It seems I have short legs compared with my waist to head length.

The result is that you are made to feel like a freak of nature!

The same goes with shoes and when a woman enters a shoe shop and asks for any widefit shoes for women she will invariably be made to feel like a leper and pointed in the direction of a few exceptionally ugly designs at the back of the shop.

It is the world of mass production that results in the making of something called the uniform fit in all things that creates this problem.

Fortunately, the better manufacturers and retailers understand there is a market for those who do not fit the norm and require slight differences.

Ladies wide fitting shoes are made by the best manufacturers so there is no need to feel anymore that the new style for the season will not be available to you.

For some people the best answer is to have bespoke shoes which can be very expensive. This involves the shoe or boot maker taking exact measurements of the feet and making a last just for that individual foot.
There is no need to go to that extreme with certain good shoe makers and if that means they are not the cheapest in the shop; so what? They will probably be the best made.

Why It Is Easier To Buy Shoes Now

It can be a real struggle to buy comfortable footwear if your feet do not fit standard shoes sizes.  When you see pictures of your favourite starts they all seem to have perfect and dainty feet.  However there will be some amongst them that have feet that are extra wide.

You would not notice though, as they have won the race from you in finding outlets on line that sell shoes for challenging foot sizes before you did.  These are now very comparable in style to the designer examples.

Gone are the old days where wide fit shoes for women and ladies wide fitting shoes were ungainly, boring and had flat heels.

Before you set out on your shopping trip, however, you should have your feet properly measured by one of the shops in your local high street so that you are armed with the correct size.  The internet is fabulous for shopping for footwear, but you cannot try shoes on.  The best time to have your feet measured up is in the evening when they will be at their biggest.  To have your feet measured in a standing position will also help.

If you can still not find a size that is comfortable you may put an insole in the shoes.  However, this should be a last resort.

Most online stores have an adequate returns policy in place in the event that your shoes still do not fit after all these precautionary measures.  You should always find out beforehand about each individual store’s returns rules.  Mostly they will take the shoes back if they have not been worn other than trying them on and that they are returned in their original packaging.

You will probably be responsible for returning them at your own cost.  Another thing to look out for is the shipping cost to get the merchandise to your front door.  This will add to the price of your footwear and if the shoes are not cheap to begin with, then you might be better off sourcing them in the many shops in town.

For wide fit shoes for women and ladies wide fitting shoes you can do no better than to log on to Davidspruce.co.uk.

Who Gives A Monkey?

In the English language the above means that you could not care less.  However this is not the case with Kipling handbags.  This Belgium manufacturer took its name from a famous British writer who wrote a well-known book about jungle animals.  The monkey was one of these described in the narrative and it is now a logo that is attached to all their products in one way or another. On their bags it is normally fastened to the zipper.

There is not a woman who can do without a bag of some sorts to keep all their bits and pieces together.  Even if you do not give a fig for fashion and you live in casual clothing all the time, you will still have a back pack or other functional receptacle for storing your personal things.

This company produces bags for all occasions, including leisure wear.  Some of them are highly decorative and colourful.  Leisure bags are normally made out of cloth and comments on the internet suggest that they wear well when they are put in the washing machine time and again.

All their products are very up to date in style and some of them are outright funky and fun such as the beach party variety.  This style will definitely be the talking point of the evening.

Whatever handbag you buy, whether it is a clutch for formal functions a tote or any other, this manufacturer has a solution of every occasion and it seems that none of their products are made out of leather which makes them all the easier to keep clean.  If they should fade you can always put a dye in the washing machine to refresh the colour.

Leather needs much looking after as it needs being kept supple.  Most leather varieties carry a much higher price too.

If you need to purchase a bag from this manufacturer, it is best to start looking on line.  There you will find the whole range displayed.  On-line shopping is so easy these days.  You do not have to get out of your chair to do it.
